Sunday, April 22

Benjamin was doing very good today. They have turned his ventilator settings down now and he is handling it very well. He has been sleeping a lot which is good. He is not as restless as Thursday. Nana (one of his primary nurses) was surprised at how calm he is. She said that he is growing up as he is able to handle “handling” more. His hand isn’t pinned to the bed anymore as he is behaving. They just put it under the froggy (a bean bag) if he misbehaves. Last night he weighed 1290 grams or 2 pounds 13 ounces.

Kyle is doing well although he is fighting an infection. Last night I noticed that his incision from the PDA ligation was red and a bit swollen. I mentioned it to the nurse and she said she’d let the doctor know. Today I saw on his chart that they put a needle in the incision to extract some fluid. It wasn’t pussy so that is a good thing. They did a blood culture and started him on antibiotics. He isn’t acting like he has an infection so that is a good sign. They have been able to turn his low flow ventilator settings down to 4ccs, which is hardly anything. They wanted to take him off the ventilator but thought they’d hold off because they don’t want to go too fast and then have him have a set back. They weighed him tonight and he now weighs 1450 grams or 3 pounds, 3 ounces. That includes his IV today though.

Sounds like those two little guys are doing really well, even despite Kyle's infection! Awesome to see them getting stronger and also closer to going home with each milestone they reach! Stef :)

Okay I must admit it has been a few days since I last checked up on you Kanis', but how super exciting to celebrate their two month birthday and how exciting that you are getting to breastfeed now (or at least try). Your boys must love it as much as you do. They are getting so big and strong, let them know we are so proud of them! You are going to be home with those little "boofers" before you know it! I can't wait to meet them in person, I just love them already! I hope you and Gary are doing okay... if you ever need anything please let us know!

All our Love

Adrian, Liz and Jewel

ps. just wanted to make sure you got that card in the mail ;)
