Update on Benjamin

Benjamin had a good night but this morning has taken a little step backwards. They had to do an x-ray this morning to check the placement of the ventilator tube & it was too high so they had to adjust it. Then they had to suction his lungs & readjust his position. He did not take this very well. Yesterday he was at 75% oxygen on the ventilator with saturations of 94% and this morning he is at 83% oxygen on the ventilator with saturations of 78-80%. They did do a blood gas this morning and it was better than yesterday so that is a good sign. When we were visiting him this morning the paralization drug wore off and he started to fight against the ventilator. This was really hard to see. He didn't move his arms or legs but his whole stomach and chest started to fight the ventilator. They gave him more drugs again and he right away calmed down. It is not nice to see him paralized but it is much better than seeing him fight against the ventilator like that. We wonder how much he realizes underneath the paralization and sedation and pray that he doesn't really know what is going on and that he is peaceful underneath all the drugs. It is so hard to see our active boy like this but every day that he is still alive is a day closer to him hopefully getting better. Please continue to pray for us as he is still in critical condition and any event can set him back quite a bit. They seem very positive in a way but yet prepare us for a major setback. Please pray that God will continue to give Benjamin what he needs and make him peaceful underneath all the drugs. And pray for continued strength for us no matter what may happen in the future.

For now we are staying over here until he is no longer in critical condition. We are just taking it one day/hour at a time. If you need to reach us the best way is to comment on the blog or facebook. We will try to update as we can but sometimes there is no news as a lot of the time he just stays the same.
