Friday, June 15- four months old today (2 weeks corrected age)

Wow, it’s been four months since the boys were born. It seems like it’s been forever.

Today we found out that Benjamin has a blockage in one of the ventricles in his brain. He is being transferred to Children’s sometime tonight or tomorrow for a consultation with a neurologist. He either needs a shunt put in or he will have to have the fluid drained. We are both very scared right now, as brain surgery doesn’t sound too appealing. Right now it seems like everything is happening to Benjamin. Everything that can go wrong with preemies, it seems, has happened to him. We are really struggling with this right now. On the positive side, Dr. Lam came today and checked his eyes and they are very good.

Kyle is doing good. He was very cranky last night during the night shift and his nurse had to walk with him for a while. He was a sleepyhead today- probably since he didn’t sleep most of the night. They have switched him to on demand feeding now without letting him go past four hours. He did take a whole bottle today so that was great. His eyes got checked today as well and Benjamin’s eyes are actually better than Kyle’s. However, Kyle does not need surgery right now.

Dear Gary and Greta,

What can we say? We cannot know or understand the things you are feeling and going through.

We give all four of you our love and pray the Lord will spare little Benjamin and use also the next procedure(s) for his good.

With love,
Steve and Leanne, Leah and Sam

Dear Greta&Gary,
4 months already! Unbelievable!
A miracle! 4 months of traveling back&forth to the hospital! 4 months of emotional ups&downs!
This is a long time to be doing this, but we know you have no choice.
Our thoughts&prayers are with you and your boys, especially now with Benjamin. We know you can not do this alone. May god give you everything you stand in need of as you are going through this difficult time.

I don't know what to say. Little Benjamin has come through so much, and we will continue to petition God - to ask for things to come out well again. This must be a very difficult surprise for you as parents, and we are also praying for extra strength for you as you fight another battle with Benjamin. We are also thankful for how well Kyle continues to do. You can count on us to 'pray without ceasing'. (((hugs)))
